5 Date Ideas To Spark Your Marriage

Dating in marriage is challenging, and there are plenty of reasons why date-night gets put on the back burner.

Sometimes the babysitter cancels, sometimes you’re both exhausted from a long day at work, and sometimes, let’s be honest, you’re just tired of the same-old routine and are not sure what to try, even though you want to try something new.

So, here are 5 ideas to help you plan your next date night with your spouse!

1. Make-Your-Own-Pizza Night

There is much to be said about the intimate “spark” that transpires when spouses take on activities together. Don’t rush this activity. Start by going to the grocery store together and take it slow so you can enjoy one another’s company. Over homemade pizza, talk about some of your favorite moments from marriage so far, or if you’re not up for talking pop in your favorite movie and enjoy a quiet night in together!

2. Farmers Market

Most towns have a weekly Farmers Market. Pick a restaurant downtown that neither of you have been to, but looks like fun, and go on Market Night. Order something out of your normal comfort zone and share off of one another’s plates. After dinner, get some local coffee and walk around, enjoy the live music, get some kettle corn, and make sure to hold hands as you walk.

3. Let the Kids Plan It!

Yes, I’m totally serious. As outrageous as it sounds, if your kids are old enough, tell them that you and your spouse are wanting to go on a date night, but aren’t sure what to do and ask them for ideas. The best part about this is that it will help you and your spouse be a kid again. They may suggest you go paint balling, play laser-tag, ride on go-karts, or even an indoor trampoline park. Whatever they suggest, do it, let loose, and have so much fun! Make sure you take pictures for your kids to see how much fun you had and thank them for a great night.

4. The “Date” Jar

You will need a mason jar and about 30 small pieces of paper. Each of you gets 8-15 pieces of paper to write down things you would like to do with your spouse. Crumble up each piece of paper and put it in the jar. The next time you cannot decide what to do for date night, pull out 1 or 2 pieces of paper and BAM! Date Night is on!

5. Local Events Night

Go to Google and type in “Local Events in (Your City Here and State). A link will pop up with a list of all of the upcoming Events & Festivals in your area. Pick a few and put them on the calendar! This takes some planning in advance, but will get you and your partner out on the town trying new things. Whatever you do, make the goal having fun together and let the rest unfold from there!
